Poor Shotaro (Kamen Rider W) :D

Found this funny scenario from pixiv. The four Kamen Riders (Wizard, Fourze, OOO, and W) are ready to henshin…

And when they are trying to henshin…

…we have this. LOL. Basically, recent riders have their belts talk and sing, especially Wizard and OOO. So we have Wizard’s belt singing, Fourze’s belt counting down, OOO’s belt singing, and Fourze’s yelling “Uchuu Kitaa!.” Meanwhile, Shotaro is trying to call Philip to henshin, and Philip couldn’t hear him because of all the noise. 😀 I really really want to see this scene enacted in the actual live-action movie because it would be extremely hilarious, but I think W actors are not in contract anymore.

Decade Leap

Found this video when I was digging around my iMovie projects. I made this parody about two years ago, parodying Kamen Rider Decade as the series Quantum Leap. In a sense, both series are kinda similar, both Tsukasa and Dr. Beckett are trying to find their way home by traveling though dimensions/time. Heck, even at the beginning, both didn’t have memories of their past. 😀

Looking at the video again, clearly I was a complete novice, using simple fonts on iMovie (although I did try mimicking the scrolling fonts of the original opening of Quantum Leap). This also shows how easy iMovie is, for me to be able to make something like this.

Kamen Rider Fourze Impression

Well, Kamen Rider Fourze has ended, with 48 episodes total. Here’s my overall impression of the series.

I’m a fan of the Kamen Rider series. They tend to be less corny than Super Sentai, and seem to cater to an older audience in addition to kids. Kamen Rider Fourze is the series after the imo lackluster Kamen Rider OOO. What makes Kamen Rider Fourze unique is the use of the high school setting, something that is new in the franchise. Kisaragi Gentarou, is a high school student, being “forced” to transform into Kamen Rider Fourze by his childhood friend, Joujima Yuki to fight the Zodiarts. The belt uses switches created by his smart yet frail classmate, Utahoshi Kengo. Being in high school, it presents a more interesting mechanics to the story and characters, at least in the beginning, as he had to keep his identity secret, and only known to few friends. Think of Megarangers. Soon after, they gather more and more friends, and form a Kamen Rider Club. There are a lot of subtle nods to the previous Rider series, especially the showa era riders (watch the quiz specials).

In any case, my first impression was not great as the design of Fourze itself looked a bit silly. They used a space theme, with a rocket-like head and astronaut-inspired suit. The rocket-like head just looks silly, and the space-white color looks plasticky. Despite that, I ‘m a sucker for the high-school setting of things (dorama, anime, etc) as they usually bring cute girls, like Yuki. 😉 The story is fairly standard, dealing with youth-related issues like bullying, self-identity, friendship, love, mostly warm-feel stuff. Of course, there’s the unbelievable worm-hole gate to the moon-base (Rabbit Hatch), and a bunch of high school students roaming around on the moon, but hey, whatever.

Unlike previous Riders, Gentarou is portrayed as a slacker, a yankee, with his own uniform and hairstyle reflecting that he’s a “rebel.” Of course, he’s still the protagonist, thus he’s trying to befriend everybody in the school. Regarding his hair, he actually looks more bad-ass with normal hair as shown in the final episode.

Of course, the magic make-up special effect on his hair styled magically after the final battle. 😀

Fast forward, other than the students, it is revealed the teachers, principal, and the chairman of the school itself are the villains. Also enter Bruce-Lee-inspired Rider, Kamen Rider Meteor. Fast forward even more, Kengo is revealed to be not human, but a sample created by an unknown alien race called the “Presenter” to gather information about humanity. Pretty deep stuff, but this was only explored in the last few episodes. This is typical of the franchise, where it can be a complete meh and boring in the middle, and only ramped up when it almost ends (eg. Kiva). In episode 47, Kengo is shown to be killed by Sagittarius. Episode 48 started by the group saddened by the death of Kengo, and the destruction of Rabbit Hatch. Unlike other previous series, the group decided to “befriend” the main villain, Sagittarius, the chairman of the school. In the end, Sagittarius told the students to continue his dream of meeting the “Presenter,” and died due to his own transformation. Of course, being a children show, Kengo is back, alive and well. Happy end.

Well, what do I think of the show? It’s an okay one. It’s weaker than I was hoping it to be though, although it’s definitely better than OOO. Gentarou is at least an interesting character, and it feels like his character is appropriate to be Fourze, unlike Eiji as OOO. Like I mentioned above, I like the high-school theme, plenty of cute high school girls. I think Fourze’s design to be a bit silly, and his powered up forms are no better, especially the silly Elek State with the crumpled costume. Fire State seems to be the best looking for Fourze. The story started okay, but it gets a bit annoying until the main focus to be the Horoscopes instead of the random Zodiart monster. A big annoyance is Miu’s “Ooops.” It’s annoying, and is always out of place. When you see your base and school being destroyed, you don’t say “Ooops.” It’s stupid. The “Uchuu Kitaa!” pose is silly, especially when it’s in the heat of battle, but it’s super cute when Yuki mirrored it everytime Gentarou did it. 😉 Ryusei (Meteor) is a good rival/side-kick Rider, although his powered up form and finishing move, a spinning top, are silly. I rather they kept his darker base form instead.

Overall, Fourze is an okay show. It’s better than OOO, but I still think W to be a better show. I feel that in an effort to just sell toys, overall quality of the franchise is getting weaker. I mean compare these recent shows to Kuuga or Agito. Also, the belt is getting more and more cumbersome. To henshin into Fourze, Gentarou has to carry the Fourze driver with him, and at least four switches which he has to put in one by one on the belt, flip the four switches on the belt, and engage the driver. Add on the 3-2-1 countdown, it becomes ridiculous when battling a monster. Compare that to Kuuga where he has his belt built-in into his body without the need of any attachments to henshin.

Next will be Kamen Rider Wizard, with huge-ass rings and a belt with a hand imprint. It’s just getting more and more ridiculous, but I hope the story can hook me in. Oh, he did a cameo in episode 48 of Fourze.

I feel that I’m getting less and less interested in the franchise. In fact, despite GoBusters suffering at the popularity polls, I actually kinda like their decision to make Super Sentai to be less corny (GoBusters don’t really do the classic roll calls with exploding backgrounds, which is the staple of Super Sentai). Oh well, we’ll see how Ikemen Rider Wizard does. Good thing there’s Accel World. Can’t stop watching it. I’m going to be sad when Accel World ends in a month (only 4 episodes left).

Piece

A movie starring two familiar actors (and few others too). I guess this is what happened to Eiji and Ankh after Kamen Rider OOO.

Screw you Steve Wang!

So, this is the guy that came up with the stupid Kamen Rider Dragon Knight, basically Kamen Rider Ryuuki knock-off. That show was canceled. That should be a clue or hint, but I guess somebody didn’t get the message. So, instead of going back to the drawing board, maybe get a bit more original and creative by coming up with an original western “toku” series, Steve Wang is going to rehash more copy-n-pasting, and his choice is either 555 or Kabuto. WTF? I’m sorry, but nobody shall touch Kabuto. Heck, even Decade’s alternate Kabuto is crap. Nobody shall change Kabuto’s image from Hiro. Kabuto is Hiro, period. Only idiots would be okay with this.

Let’s see. They are showing Kamen Rider Dragon Knight in Japan. Yet we don’t even see Kamen Rider Ryuuki being released as DVD in the US.
SCREW YOU STEVE WANG! SCREW YOU ADNESS! You are the reason why we will never see Japanese Kamen Rider series being released in the US. We had hope with V3 and both Kamen Rider The First and The Next movies being released as DVD in the US. But no, you had to do Dragon Knight, and apparently more crap coming. F U!

iPod K-Touch

LOL. Yeah, I jailbroke my iPod Touch just to have the awesome K-Touch app.

Now, speaking of jailbreaking, I was on the camp that is super paranoid about jailbreaking, simply because it seems to be too much of a hassle. Well, I found out a super easy way to do it. Just remember to sync/backup your iPod Touch first with iTunes before doing this, just in case. Note that my iPod Touch is the older 2nd gen Touch with firmware 3.1.3, not the latest “2nd gen” 8GB Touch that is beind sold with the 3rd gen iPod Touch. Also, I’m on OS X. There’s an application called spirit. I simply downloaded it, unzip the app, ran it, and the app is simply there waiting for me to connect my iPod Touch. Once I connected my iPod Touch to my Mac, the Jailbreak button was immediately enabled. How to jailbreak? Just press the button. LOL. Couldn’t be easier. No need to do restore and/or other hacking/command line stuff. After that, the iPod Touch will reboot, and you just wait. After it finished rebooting, Cydia appears, and download away. 🙂

Angels, according to the Japanese

How would you describe an angel? You probably will think about a holy humanoid creature with wings, a messenger from God, sometimes bearing a halo on top, and wearing basic cloth/medieval style clothing. Angels are sometimes portrayed as having holy powers and weapons.

Well, forget about those. In 2010, angels need cards to henshin and use their powers. They wear helmets and spandex, and each are color coded. The use cards to summon weapons. Oh, did I mention they also have a robot? And who are they fighting? Aliens. Oh course, they appeared in Japan only. LOL. Yeah, that’s basically the description of 2010 Super Sentai, GoSeiger. Really, the story is that they’re angels (which is somewhat ironic considering GoSei Pink is a gravure idol… LOL).

Well, their henshin sequence is kinda neat, with wings and lights from heaven… LOL.
So what’s the story? Well, apparently angels have been protecting earth. But now we have aliens trying to conquer earth. Obviously to minimize any resistance, they damaged the angels’ headquarters. Fortunately, there are 5 angels in-training that are on earth for their training. Without access/help from HQ, these 5 young angels are earth’s only hope to fight the aliens.

As I suspected, the cards made everything corny. Again, ONORE DIKEIDO!!! Following Kamen Rider’s trend of using cards, GoSeiger is the first Sentai that focus on the cards. In fact, they focus too much on the cards. Everything the GoSeigers do require cards, from henshin, summoning weapons, summoning guns, anything. Even in the first episode, it’s already shown that this card business can backfire, where they were attacked while trying to put their cards into their changers. LOL. It’s unfortunate that this is the decision TOEI made to ensure toys sales. Super Sentai have been great lately, with Go-Onger and Shinkenger. I hope GoSeiger can continue the trend. I don’t know if I would get used to the cards though.

Kamen Rider W, My Impression So Far

Kamen Rider W started with a weird premise, where 2 guys henshin into 1 rider. In the beginning, I smell yaoi-ness aplenty. I even made this video:

Fast forward, Kamen Rider W is actually a pretty decent show. No yaoi-ness I could see. Even better, it feels really like a detective J-Dorama, with tokusatsu mixed in. I really love the show. Funny and entertaining.

But then guess who showed up. A new Kamen Rider, Kamen Rider Accel, Ryu Terui. Not only the design is a stark contrast from W (he looks like a cheap toy design, unlike W’s smooth design), he can transform. Yup, another transformrider, the bad trend started by Decade. ONORE DIKEIDO!!! Really, I just hate this Transformers Riders stuff. It’s just weird (Kuuga’s head being flipped, firing arrow from Kiva’s crotch, etc). Kamen Rider is supposed to be “human,” not Transformers. Well, Kamen Rider Accel can transform into a motorcycle. Well, okay, the transformation isn’t as weird as the other Riders in Decade, but I still think it’s fishy. Well, guess what, in episode 22, Accel gets a new weapon, the Gunner A. It’s a tank, and Accel in his motorcycle form can combine with it. That sounds fine, until you see how they combined. Watch this video I made:

Yeah, you be the judge.
What were the producers and director thinking? That’s just bad design. I mean come on, really? I hope they don’t do that often in future episodes.

Edit: Youtube suspended my account for unknown reason. If there was a TOS violation, usually they simply disabled/deleted the video and gave me a warning. Now, my account just went poof. I’m uploading the video to metacafe.

Decade Leap (Quantum Leap parody)

I got the idea when stumbling on Quantum Leap’s theme song. LOL.

Tsukasa Kadoya, suffering from partial amnesia and awoke in a world that is not his own. Trapped, Tsukasa finds himself leaping from world to world, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap, will be the leap home.
